Timba Bass Lesson 3: 2-3 Tumbaos Example 2

Now that we have our melodic “hook” that outlines the three-side of the clave, it’s now time to fill in the rest of the two-bar phrase. This example uses a very common device used in timba basslines for outlining the two-side of the clave.  Noticed that the root falls heavily on beat “three” which lines up with the second accent of the two-side, thus creating a strong downbeat to anchor the line in place.
